Denotations and Connotations

What we can already see from the double page spread is a image of Rick Ross holding a champagne glass with champagne in the other hand in a very formal slick in shades and silver balloons around him this can gets across the type of man he is without even having to of heard his type of music but if you have heard his type of music he claims himself to being a “Made Man, Self Made, Boss”, he’s at a state where he thinks very highly of himself and likes to represent himself in such a way because he’s worked for where his all by himself.

The costume used is a formal suit, an all-black suit which seems to suede so it’s a very expensive and slick suit which portrays the type of man he is, a serious classy person. He is also appearing to be wearing sunglasses whilst indoors which shows that he’s non caring and just wants to look how he wants to look like. If he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt the image would give across a very different meaning. The props used in this is the champagne glass, the champagne and the balloons around him in a sort of celebration. The non-verbal-communication that Rick Ross is showing by looking away from the camera could be that he wants the readers to focus on what he is wearing and what is around him rather than on his face. His pose is a unique and “Boss” type of pose with his right hand fingers being pointed in a perhaps a desired way or accidental, on his left hand we can vaguely see that he is trying to make his smallest finger stand out to show the ring that he is wearing which is very lavish and expensive, showing the wealth he has to be spending on one ring.

Anchorage

There are some pieces of anchorage such as the “MADE MAN” written twice and in bold which helps to represent the type of man he is followed by the image and the way he’s posing, his costume, props which all help the reader to get an idea of the message that the double page spread is trying to bring to them. He is also the man of the year according to the magazine, so he isn’t being vain for the way the image looks, he’s just being proud of who he is.

The target audience of this magazine seems to be Men, men who are quite wealthy and have accumulated their wealth by theirselves and not relied on others due to "Made Man" which means they are their own reason why they are wealthy.
